Great thread....I had been looking for reading suggestions in another thread, wherein I brought up the following:

"I just read a short but enjoyable book by Donn Pearce, entitled "Nobody Comes Back." It's a fictional account of sixteen year old infantryman who served in Belgium near the end of WWII. He was captured twice by the Germans and managed to escape. No mention of Lugers anywhere but I really enjoyed it, nonetheless."

Once notable thing is that he lost his weapons and came across a German "burp gun" and sniper rifle. When he finally gets back to his side and is asked to turn them in for U.S. guns, his comment is something to the effect of "I'd rather keep these. They're better than ours."
