Rare Colt Woodsman shoulder stock

Just thought I would post a couple of pics of a very rare Colt Woodsman shoulder stock and holster I recently acquired.

I enjoy shooting the pre-war Colt Woodsmans. The grip angle reminds of a luger. It is said that John Browning was influenced by the luger when he designed the Woodsman.

The stock was made in the 1920's and was manufactured in Ventura CA. Ventura is where I grew up( my wife would dispute the grown up part )

It would be fun to research the company and it products.

My early Colt .22 Target pre-Woodsman fits perfectly and it is BATF legal!

This was discussed in another forum that I belong to a couple of months ago.

I have summarized soem of the discussion points:

Shortly after the Colt Woodsman had reached the apex of its popularity in the mid-1920, a small holster making outfit out of California offered up a unique, well-made steel and leather holster which could quickly be slipped off the wearer's belt and attached solidly to the butt of the Colt it was carrying moments earlier.

The owner now had what was effectively a short barreled carbine. Once the shooter was done, they slipped the gun out of its stock, hooked the big steel loop on the back over their belt, and holstered the Colt.

The logo shows N-S, for Neal Schaefer of Ventura, California, and says it was patented 1925.

..metal holder around the butt is a strong clamp and tightly fitted so there's no movement of the gun inside it. Yes, it's specifically for the first generation. I tried it on all my various single shot pistols and the only one it fit was the Fiala. Here's pic of a Fiala wearing it.

Was this off of GB, 153292357?

I wonder how many of these stocks are still around?

The gentleman I got mine from found it in a box from a storage locker repo sale in the Bay Area of CA

Bob et al, I also have one that is like new, available for sale @$750 + $15 insured priority S&H. I find that the Mod B High Standard also fits. TH

Thats a great deal on that Woodsman stock.
The last 2 that sold on Gunbroker went for quite a bit more!

Had a guy offer me one of these at a gunshow couple months back for $100 but I had never seen one and was unsure of its worth. Doh.

Congratualtion Bob, nice piece!

I've become a fan of stocked pistols in the past few years, and have been trying to buy one of these holsters, off and on, for awhile now. So far, I always seem to be outbid.

I did stumble actross the "other" rare Woodsman stock, the Monarch Arms "Rifle-ette" aluminum stock from the 1920's at the Ventura Gun Show a couple of years ago. Unfortunately, the matching cast-metal grips required to mount the stock were missing, and I suspect I'll spend the rest of my life looking for a pair. . .

If anybody has a lead on a pair of cast-metal grips for a Woodsman, I'd sure be interested!

It's also a banned assault weapon in California under P.C. 12276.1(a)3

Help me understand how a Woodaman so configured is in violation of P.C. 12276.1(a)3.

It is (obviously) not banned by model, and I cannot find applicable "generic characteristics" prohibitions under rifle or pistol.

My mistake, it's not "A semiautomatic, centerfire rifle that has an overall length of less than 30 inches."

Your Colt Woodsman Monarch Arms Rifle-ette shoulder stock is a REALLY rare item.

I go to the Ventura Gun Show all the time and never found anything as rare as that!

You might be able to find the correct grips.Very few people would have any idea what a set of those grips where for.
