New to Lugers Part 1

Hi and welcome to the forum. You have a 1917 DWM P08 which was the standard pistol issued to the German army during WWI. Unfortunately, it has been refinished at some point which diminishes it's value. It also passed through the U.K. on it's way to the States as it bears British Nitro Proofs. Still, it's a nice memento from your Dad. Regards, Norm

Thanks for the quick reply Norm! AS I said earlier, I know nothing about these pieces as well as their proofmarks. Can you please tell me what the signs of it being refinished as well as where the British Nitro Proofs are? All those proof marks and thats all she's telling us? LOL.

The interesting thing is that I am not in the U.S. I am across the world from you and based in the Philippines. It's come a long way!!

Any idea of the value for something like this? I do not intend to sell it rather I was just curious about the value.

I hope I posted in the proper thread in this forum. I wasn't sure if I should have posted in the "All P-08 Military Lugers" thread.

Hi, I'm enclosing a couple of pics of British proofs on one of my guns. Your gun looks like it has been wire brushed, to remove rust, and then given a salt blue finish, which is darker and shinier than the original rust blue. I don't know what your gun would be worth in the Phillipines, but here in the U.S. it would fetch about $700.00. Regards, Norm

Thanks for the great pictures Norm. So, its the Crown with the BNP markings. Was wondering what those meant. What marking are you referring to with regards to the second picture? Do you see any other markings that could add to the past of this pistol? I posted some pics in a second thread. Thanks again!

Hi, You have the same, or very similar markings on the bottom of the barrel of your gun. They mean, when tested by the British, that my gun was cal. 9mm, the chamber length was .752 inches and that it withstood a proof load of 15 tons per square inch. Regards, Norm
