fred, the cleaning kit should have, 2 brushes, one chain, one oiler and a special tool to remove the magazine floor plate of the K98k, because these cleaning kit, as far as I know were made for the K98k. The bottom section is to keep cleaning patches.

Hello,
some additional information on the manufacturers of the RG34 cleaning kit:

G. Appel:
tin, unmarked, pre 1935
tin, marked "G.Appel" with date 1935 - 1938
tin, "64" undated (probably 1938 - 1939)
painted "64" undated
painted "cnx" undated
painted "G.Appel", undated with clamp for third brush

Braunschweigische Blechwarenfabik....
tin, kh 1935 (unconfirmed)
tin, ky 1936 - ky 1941
arr41 - arr4 (arr4 stamped in one line, blue. dual line, blue and tan)
rco44 - rco45, tan

HAWIG:
tin, Hawig Logo, undated
painted, Hawig Logo 1940
painted, cmr 41 - cmr45

Mundlos:
tin, Mundlos 1935 - 1940
tin, ab40
painted, ab41 - ab44
CNX (capital letters) might be the missing ab45??????? (Never seen or heard about an "ab45")

Schlesinger:
painted, "ftd", undated

unknown:
painted, rbl44,

remarks:
The CNX coded kits are most probably not manufactured by G.Appel. I assume these kits were assembled by G.Appel from left over parts of the Mundlos company, that was destroyed in early 1945.
undated "G.Appel" marked kits with no WaA, are said to be for Police and other non military branches (RAD, OT...), export (Portugal) and officers who had to buy their equipment themselves.
ChdAW marked kits are most probably made by G.Appel.
ky and Hawig marked kits are known with Navy markings.

Hope this helps
Tom
