Banner refers to the word Mauser on the top toggle. Other guns made by Mauser used "codes" such as byf or 42 or s/42, etc. I assume it was something to do with Nazi discretion being exercised since they were not suppose to be re-arming, however other members could tell you more on that rationale.
I find the discrepancy in the serial numbers interesting and to the right collecter it should not hurt the value. Sort of like stamps, the most sought-after stamps are those unusual ones with errors. DJU |
