Default Newbie needing value help

I have just received a 1937 S/42 which I know nothing about these guns except from what I read on this forum. All numbers showing are matching except for the magazine. All markings look to be true according with the charts on this forum. It has about 80% bluing finish on left side and about 90% on right side. Grips are in good shape with the worst worn spot caused from the snap inside the hoilster but still not that bad, just a little more visable spot. After looking on the net I find these anywhere from $800 to $3000 in close to same condition. This seems to be quite a wide range. What would be an average value for this gun? Is there something else I should be looking at on it that would make it less or more value? This has a 4 digit serial number. Is this just the number of gun made that year or is there any other meaning for that number? Is the higher the number less value? Thanks for any and all help.
