Nick,

John's suggestion is excellent for 1906-type pistols. The VoPo grips are hollow inside, that means that little modification is needed for the grip safety. I modified a set for my Dutch M11 KNIL version.

But.... The 06/29 model has a different grip shape, and even the VoPo ones ain't gonna fit.

Postwar Mauser Parabellum grips (1970-1972) should be workable, though, although the grip safety of the Mauser was shorter, so some filing is needed. You will need the Mauser grips for the 29/70 (Swiss 06/29 grip style), not those for the 06/73 (P08 style grip).

There are repro Swiss grips out there as well, and since the 06/29 has plastic grips to start with, I wouldn't be too afraid of damaging them.
