size and weight do have a lot to do with it but i wouldn't say a luger is to big....( i'm 5'9" 170 lbs and can completely conceal a 4 3/4" single action revolver in a shoulder rig while wearing my mechanic's jacket.) be familiar with your weapon...carry loaded with the safety on so when you need to use it all you have to do is flick off the safe (here is where being familiar with the weapon comes in handy) i wouldn't go any lower in caliber than a 9mm (personally my defensive weapons don't go any smaller than a 44)and make sure that you can aquire the sights quickly and easily (this is were the luger falls a little short)and make sure you are legal...(no sense in risking your right to collect these beauties when you could just as effectively carried a defensive clipon knife and been legal)
