Default Magazine jamming

I have a wood/nickel original mag from a 1918 Erfurt that a round hangs up every so often. ( it is always the next top round that will not move up)
I have to pull the spring down just a bit to release it. Pushing up does nothing.
Other times it seems fine. I have inspected it ....but do not see anything that may bind.

Just moving the spring up and down is all free and there are no dents.

Any ideas?
When it is jammed and the mag has rounds in it, you can't really see anything........but it is a solid jam.

Thanks

I'd be suspect of the OAL of the round, as in maybe there is a very slight taper toward the top of the mag. body. You could possibly smoke or mark loaded rounds and run them thru until they jam, then examine them for sights of contact with the mag body. I'd guess length however. Got any other ammo to experiment with? Or carefully file or grind on the bullets? And while probably not relevant here, I'm not above a shot of WD40 inside of a mag. (although don't let it soak into the wood bottom.)
It just seems to me that there has to be a very slight taper of deformation toward the top of the mag.
Well, you got your money's worth. Almost.

Thanks..........I will have to pick up another brand to try. These were Federal American Eagles.
Appreciate it.

I just ran 50 trouble-free Winchester White Box through mine. Give those a try.

MC, If different ammo doesn't cure your problem, I'd check the inside of mag at the area of cut for mag release, for any deformation. TH

You might also want to try Magtech 115gr. FMC. if avalable in your area.
Works perfectly in my P08. (Which is btw. wery picky on ammo.)

Hi:

Original Luger ammo is long to todays standards, a minimum of 1.169 is required, preferably 1.173. This is because the ammo rides up the magazine on a steep angel.

Your's is the archtypical Luger malfunction problem. I have found that only custom loaded ammo will truly cure the problem.

Do you reload?
