I just picked up my 1st Luger...a 1918 Erfurt.
I have been checking it out and cleaning it up, but could not get it to dry fire. Is there a way or is this just the way they are made? I want to check it out good before I go to a range and was just curious on that. Appreciate any input Mike |

Mike, I suggest that you make sure the FP is cocked against the sear and the safety is off (no Geisert showing) and that the chamber is empty, before you pull the trigger. Then you should hear the "click" of the FP moving forward. Lugerdoc

LD,
Thanks for the reply. Seems I was not pulling the trigger far enough. There is a feel to it ( as I am used to a S&W 39) that it was at the end already. At least I know now how it feels. As I had said, I just picked it up the other day and just getting used to it. It is my 1st Luger. Guess I have to get used to that trigger pressure, There is one other thing I have some concern over. That is the rounds hand feeding out of the mag. It just does not feel smooth enough. In the S&W mag the rounds just roll out with your thumb. These seem to require quite a bit of force. almost like it jams. Also, the force required to get 6-7 rounds in a mag is high. Never got the 8th in. Are these problematic?? Appreciate your helping |

I wouldn't dry fire it a whole lot without a snap-cap in.
You might want to pick up a luger tool to assist with the loading. It does help with a stiff spring and repos can be had for under $20.00 I had the follower in my SA mag sticking and noticed the spring was binding on the side of the mag and there was a burr on the cutout area for the mag release once I correctly seated the mag spring and cleared the burr it worked much better. Some mags only hold 7 rounds. I would also suggest you pick up a mec-gar mag for range trips to save the original mag Mec-gars hold 8 rounds. I have several and they work great. |

Leave the toggle assembly slightly up when the pistol is ready to dry fire. (like this ^) then when the pistol is fired it transfers the firing pin energy to the toggle when it straightens it out.
