A 1917 could well have been used during the period. Probably stolen from a U.S. Armory or sold on the black market by American gunrunners, or both.

"It progressed into a protracted and complicated civil war. It produced the Mexican Constitution of 1917. The Revolution is generally considered to have lasted until 1920, although the country continued to have sporadic but comparatively minor outbreaks of rebellion in the 1920s, such as the Cristero War. The Revolution triggered the creation of the National Revolutionary Party in 1929".
