Hi Steve,
Assuming the piece is all original (i.e. matching), in my experience the most common cause of the problem you are experiencing is a worn sear bar plunger. Inspect this part carefully, looking to see if the surface of the sear bar plunger against which the trigger lever bears is worn. If it is, the cure is a replacement sear bar plunger.
