OK, here's another gap in my knowledge....

I agree the numbers on this gun look unusual when compared to the many photos of other typically numbered pistols.

Here's my question: When a pistol is re-numbered like this one apparently is, would the original numbers be filled in with a welder, then ground flush and finally restamped and reblued?
