Default NEW Member Luger "G"

This has been in my family for a long time. The story goes that my Great, Great uncle brought this gun back from the war. He told stories to my father of taken this gun off dead soldier. You know how stories are toldâ?¦lol. One this for sure this gun has been in a safe for over forty years. Any information would be appreciated. I will post several pictures. All numbers match, except the clips, I now read is very common.

Thanks,
Danny

Welcome to the Lugerforum. Please include clear photos of the top of the pistol and the front of the frame where the whole serial number is located in front of the trigger guard. Then more can be told of your Luger.

A Nice G-Date Luger. the "G" was used to fool the folks who wrote the Versailles Treaty so they wouldn't know what year it was manufactured in direct violation of the treaty... The pistol was made by Mauser in either 1934 or 1935... "G" was used for one year, and "K" was used for the other. Unfortunately, I don't remember which is which at the moment. Perhaps another RKI might be able to pin it down for you.

Interesting that this G date was modified for police service. According to Jan's "Third Reich Lugers" only about 600 were for police procurement in the e & f range.

Swampland could you post a few more good pics of the left and right sides, rear and a close up of the front ser#

Thanks,

Swampland,

FYI, the police modification is the spring loaded contraption that fits over the sideplate. It was designed to prevent the discharge if the owner was stupid enough to begin disassembly with a round in the chamber... The fact that this device is original to your Luger indicates it was issued for police use.

So according to Jan's "Third Reich Lugers" My luger is one of 600? Correct? So it would be a rare "G"
