Unhappy Forgive me... I have forged

Forgive me... I have forged. I must admit, it was kind of fun. I'm hoping I'll be forgiven as long as I don't try to sell it?

It was for my daughter's school project.

Now I know to smell suspicious documents for the scent of tea.

Here's the text for anyone who cares:

October 12, 1492
Dear Family,
Today we have reached land. Chris Columbus calls it Asia. I am so excited our hard voyage here is over. Just a month ago there was a terrible storm and many people passed away. I am so lucky I am not one of them. Also I am very excited because when we approach the new land I will bring home many great treasures. But still I am not home yet and I miss you so much. I bet the voyage back home will be as rough as the voyage traveling to land.
When I get home we will have all riches and spices. I will even make a feast for us. Ever since I left I bet you guys have been worried sick about me. Trust me, I feel the same way too. I have been praying that you guys are doing well.
Anyway, I have to go, my friend Henry needs help unloading barrels. Hope to write back to you soon,

Giovanni

P.S. My favorite part is the solemn way crewmen "passed away" in the storm. If this was my son's project, they would have struck the main mast as they were blown overboard and drowned while they were eaten by sharks!

P.P.S. No, I didn't broach the subject of who would actually deliver the mail. Too early to stifle the imagination.

Better keep an eye on it, otherwise someone will get a hold of it and it will end up on eBay.

Do you think they used the term "you guys" back in 1492?

Yes,
"you guys" is a documented period phrase.

It was morphed into the more curent "yous guys" by some shady Dutch traders...

"I'll tell you whut, yous guys cough up the Island and take this $17.00 worth of trinkets, otherwise, your wigwams might get hit by lightning... you followin' me Cochise?"

I think the proper phraseology would be "Dudes".

The Indian Dudes sold the island, like ya know, ta the Dutch Dudes. Fer like ya know, chump change man...
