Alfred,

Another reason some guns (not all guns...) have every stamping and marking colored is to possibly hid the "truth" or authenticity of some markings that may not be legitimate and the seller is trying to "hide" the true nature of how those bogus markings got applied.

If a seller is trying to offer to sell me a luger and it has "coloring" added to all such stampings and markings, I would certainly ask, politely, for the seller to remove such colorings so I can take a closer look before I decide to buy.

If they know you are a serious buyer with cash in hand and they still refuse to remove the coloring for your closer inspection, one would best walk away with money in your pockets.

This is especially important here in the USA; as the business of luger boosting and forgery is a multi-million dollrar business and not just a simple little "cottage industry".

The only factory-applied colored markings are, typically, at the thumb safety marking location.
