I have run across maybe 3-4 with marks on the closure strap. Suggests that what we think is the "rule" ain't necessarily so. I believe those hard headed german saddlers made holsters the way they wished to within the general military spec and didn't give a pfennig what some quartermaster in Potsdam thought.
