Default Luger value

A friend of mine has a luger, and has asked me the value of it. As I don't know a lot about them, I thought I would go to experts in the field.

The pistol is 9mm, and bears the Erfurt Arsenal two date insignia 1920 over 1914. It has grooves for a stock on the bottom of the grip. The pistol condition is about 75 %. There is a brand new mint condition holster, and two magazines, one with a wooden magazine bottom. Stamped in the front of the grip is "S L POL 1747" and SP over L on the bottom of the gun. The SL POL 1747 has been XX out.

I would appreciate any information that you can provide, and a value if you can predict one. Thanks

Default Re: Luger value

The 1920 is not really a date, although we commonly refer to these pistols as "double date". The 1920 is a property mark.

A wooden mag bottom would be correct for this pistol, and without info off the holster my guess might be that it's a repro.

Maybe one of the others can give you the info on the Unit Markings. You didn't say whether all the numbers were amtching, if so my guess as to value would be $700 - $900 (and assuming the strawing is present), if non-matching, dip blued etc, you have a shooter at $500 - $700.

Hope this helps.
