Default Newbee looking for info

I have recently come across a German Luger and am looking for any info I can get on it.

The SN is on the bottom of the barrel just in front of the receiver and the word German is stamped above it.

The SN# is 5,543 I beleive ("the pistol is at work right now") It has a grip safety, and an Eagle stamped on top of the receiver that resembles the Eagle that is stamped into the stocks of M1's and M'14s.

It has wood checkered grips that are dirty but still are in decent shape considering.. ("no cracks or anything")

I didnt know that lugers even had grip safetys, I mean it just doesnt seem to match with the rest of the gun. Its a different color metal than the rest of the gun.
