Default Probably a Dumb Question

I was just looking at one of my Lugers and thinking about the serial numbering used. Since the major parts like the frame, receiver, takedown lever, safety lever, extractor, middle and front toggle links, firing pin, and the lowly holdopen are serial numbered; why is the breechblock not serial numberd? I realize it has the test proof stamp, but this is to assure funtion. Why did the Heereswaffenamt not require checks of the breechblock? This certainly seems to be a critical part in the pistol. Does anyone on the Forum know an answer to this question?
