<hr /></blockquote>Not necessarily, the absence of a "P" may mean that the gun was in service but never "privatised" because the person had to leave the army before term (in particular at an early stage which would explain the good condition of the gun) or just didn't want to keep it when he retired, so that it stayed in an arsenal until the army got rid of its stocks.
