Default 1920 commercial police?

Hi to all! Well, I went to a gun show this weekend and although there were not very many guns of any type, I did spy a decent Luger and promptly set out on a quest to buy it... At first glance, it was pretty un-remarkable, but the condition was nice and the visible numbers matched so I did my best Monty Python haggling and walked away with it for a fair price..
By the time I got back to my table I was already feeling pretty good about my purchase, and it can be described as follows:
Basically, it is an 1920's alphabet commercial serial 9765 r factory DWM with no import marks, and a 4" original 9MM barrel. there are crown N on the receiver, barrel and breechblock. It has a sear safe and a magazine safety, and is numbered in the commercial style. The side plate is, of course, modified for the sear safe. but it is also numbered in the military style along the the commercial style original number as well? And, the rear toggle pin is numbered. All else standard commercial, no police stamps or other depot marks anywhere? Now the last, but not least feature item, is on the lower front grip strap it is marked: S.M. 239.
and that is it?
The Luger came in a re-purposed artillery holster with a police crown S tool with another serial number, and a standard fxo mag for a spare... Probably just as it was all the way thru WW2?... Anyway, you grip strap gurus pleas let me know what the grip strap markings might mean? Best to all, til....lat'r.....GT...
