Default In re navy mags

I'm interested in the evolution of the our Navy magazines. It appears that the Navy was the only ones using the concentric grips. Did they change during the Naval service? I would assume they were made to give a better grip in wet or damp surroundings such as those experianced in its Navy. I can imagine the artillerys were even in worse conditions in the trenches, mud and blood. Did they remain the same only on the navys? Any opinions would be helpful! Tks Eric~~
