Default How good are the repro parts?

my favorite shooter P08 got a healthy workout this afternoon trying out some mags I've picked up. Some good mags..some bad. Another topic in the shooting reloading section on that topic.

Anyhow..just came in from my man-cave and cleaning the Mauser Luger. Had the toggle-train out..and noticed the extractor tension wasn't right..

I had noted a single failure to extract out of probably almost 240 rounds fired this afternoon. The mag was one that was being troublesome..so I didn't think much of it. No further failures to extract..and I shot quite a bit more with the Mauser P08..trying some of the mags that came up working at least twice more to check their reliability. Gun was still working when I quit and gathered brass and other debris.

So the extractor wasn't right..hadn't ever removed a Luger extractor..so got my favorite handgun disassembly book out...pushed the pin out..and don't really see anything wrong. Clean the crud from the bolt..clean the extractor..Put the Mauser back together..and no real tension on the extractor?

I go retrieve a couple other Lugers..a DWM and Erfurt...they got plenty of extracto tension! I take the old DWM apart..remove it's extractor..and it becomes obvious the Mauser extractor is busted..the little thin ear that rides under the pin has broken off..I find it still in the slot..despite the fact I had wiped the crud out..the little sliver of steel had stayed put by the spring.

Well hoot. No big deal..I think I'll just swipe the extractor from the DWM..it's number electro-penciled out...I've always suspected it to be a later model extractor anyhow. Stick a replacement in later.

Well..it won't quite fit the Mauser 42 bolt..almost..but not quite...I stick the broken extractor in the DWM bolt and pin it..won't stay in..

So really...Just how interchangeable are P08 Lugers?

Since my Mauser 42 is a shooter..I really wouldn't mind putting in a high quality new part..are the new Reproduction parts I see available here and there worth buying?

Thanks..Stevie
