General question about pairs of #-matching mags

How about this? I have pondered this questions and I think I have the answer. What if Lugers were not numbered as they are; for instance only a frame serial? No full serial anywhere else and no small parts numbered.
Would Lugers be collectable at all? Would they be as desirable as they are now?
I think there would be much less interest, but just the beauty and handling of the Luger makes it a desirable keep sake.
