Question 1940 "42" P-08 strange Marking

I have a professionally restored 1940 "42" P-08 which has a strange stamp mark on the left side of the front end of the receiver, in line with, and following the serial number, and the letter, "d". The mark is not complete, possibly from a stamping mis-strike. However, it is circular, and the top part, which is the only part which can be made out, looks like the top of a "sunburst". Any information as to what this might be would be appreciated.
