Default Luger Value - Mike

I was given a Luger as a gift from my father n law. He was an 82nd Airborne soldier who served in Europe during WWII.

I have no thoughts of ever selling such a great gift, but am curious of what it may be worth.

It has a 1936 date of manufacture and the notation S/42 on top of the pistol. All numbers match to include the magazine. He also gave me the Army papers that are signed by an officer giving him permission to bring the Luger back to the States.

The checkering is very sharp and the weapon has never been refinished. It does have some holster wear but no scratches on either wood or metal.

The original holster does not exist, but he had a holster made prior to his leaving Germany in Dec 1945..

What is this weapon worth?

Thank You
Mike
