Default Magazine jamming

I have a wood/nickel original mag from a 1918 Erfurt that a round hangs up every so often. ( it is always the next top round that will not move up)
I have to pull the spring down just a bit to release it. Pushing up does nothing.
Other times it seems fine. I have inspected it ....but do not see anything that may bind.

Just moving the spring up and down is all free and there are no dents.

Any ideas?
When it is jammed and the mag has rounds in it, you can't really see anything........but it is a solid jam.

Thanks
