Im generally most interested in custom barreled / target lugers and there seems to be almost no availability in this interest area
on ebay now is a barrel removing tool at http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...5657&rd=1&rd=1 it seems to have no clamping method for the receiver , so seems to me this would have some clearance that would mar the finish perhaps the idea is to shim the receiver with brass foil - but seems that some sort of clamping of receiver would be needed to grip tight enough to avoid the squish of the receiver finish the same seller also has a receiver + barrel fixture that would seem to be suited for turning a mounted barrel to a new contour or polishing barrel Im getting more interested in trying some rebarreling and am interested in any comments forum members may have on these tools versus any they have found successful anybody have a list of tools / fixtures that are needed ? does anybody generally make and sell this stuff ? any book avaiilable that has a useful luger serious gunsmithing section ? any suggestions on lathe / mill for hobby level usage ? how serious of an anchor is needed to mount hydraulic barrel vise solidly enough to take the torque needed for barrel removal ? wacking the removal tool usually needed or just increasing torque ? seems barrel mounted for 50 - 100 years would be almost welded by mild corrosion on the bare metal threaded area thanks for any comments / advice I have read thru many of the prior posts on similiar subjects Bill |
