In Production????

I spoke to Mr. Romo on 10/25/06 at his number 713-305-8540. He told me he is not producing any Lugers right now but plans on starting production back up in 3 or 4 months. He asked me to call back in 3 or 4 weeks for an update if I want.

I am new to Luger collecting and have started buying books, beginning with Lugers at Random. I would like to buy a shooter to learn more about the pistol by breaking it down and firing it, but find myself in a dilemma. I thought about buying one of the Orimar s.s. Lugers from Mr. Romo, but have seen some negative comments about them. Are the Orimar guns relatively reliable if you figure out the right ammo to use?

I spoke with Ralph Shattuck at the Tulsa Gun Show recently who told me to stay away from a shooter and get an "entry level" matching gun (which he said through him would cost $1395.00 or more) . He said to do that and feel free to fire some rounds through it (I know that makes many of you cringe at the thought-and me too!). I saw a few overpriced nonmatching shooters at the gun show.

Can I get some learned advice on the best way to go? I would feel best to get a new one from Orimar when they again start up production and just shoot the fire out of it without worry. Could I do that with a nonmatching shooter and be okay? Where would I go to find a reasonably priced, decent nonmatching shooter that wouldn't blow up in my hand?
