Default Help with 1916 mismatch?

Hello Guys

This is my first time on your forum. My brother-in-law called me with this info. on a luger he wants to sell me. Ser.# 20977, 1916 on chamber plus an L and a V with unknown mark under it. S/42 on toggle and the number 77. There is no letter under the serial # under the barrel but there are two crowns with RC under one and 2 under the other, these are on the front of the trigger guard. Walnut grips and aluminum unmatched mag. All other visible parts are numbered 77. What I don't get is the 77 on the toggle which is the wrong toggle for this gun. I hope to get better at this and will send pictures of my byf 41 luger on the next posting.
Thanks
