1906 American Eagle 9mm

I realize I have most of the information that I can get, but I was reading The Luger Story by Walters, and he states;

Ledgers kept by Tauscher from 1913-1917... show sales of 1,697 30 cal new model american eagle and 472 .38 (9mm I am sure is the same) new model american eagle serial numbered 38349 - 65800...

Kenyon states approx 3,000 AE 9mm.

my question is;
I am guessing that after WW1 there were 9mm american eagles made, but they'd be serial number ??
