The description claims that the sideplate is homemade. Before I would suspect that it is just ground, I would want an answer to the question, if one ground the side plate island flush with the plate surface, would one grind through the island?

In any case, side plates can be had (relatively) cheaply, and would be a much simpler solution than a weld build-up.

As far as bore condition is concerned, remember, conventional wisdom here is that really ugly Luger bores can be fantastic shooters.

I'd say that there is potential here for someone to get a pretty good deal on a shootable LP08.
