It is not a mismatch of parts, fully matching numbers. and there is no heat discoloration to to the frame. or weld scaring. all milling lines are seamless through the metal of the stock mount.
My thoughts are the requested design prototypes for 1917-1918, trench warfare wit snail drum and stock. Since Mauser was producing the c96, perhaps they had some influences to mount and stock designs. |
