I always think of them as on a "chicken", but then anyone can get their "hackles" up if confronted with certain situations, like faux SS markings.
![]() NOUN (hackles) 1-erectile hairs along the back of a dog or other animal that rise when it is angry or alarmed. (hackles) 2-a long, narrow feather on the neck or saddle of a domestic rooster or other bird. 3-a steel comb for separating flax fibers.
