Post flaming bomb

I was reading American Rifleman today and saw a interesting question.A gentleman has a Stevens Model 87m 22cal rifle, and he was asking this question, "ON the reciever is the following"US"(followed by the "flaming bomb")and a "diamond" shaped mark.In front of the rear sight is:"Ranger 101.16."The stock has"RIA" in small letters stamed mid-way on the left side.Could you please identify this rifle and advise me of any history about this gun?" The answer came back that this was a gun that was purchased by the Army Ordnance Corps and was used as a trainer and that the "RIA" mark stood for Rock island arsenal. Unfortunatly they dont talk about or show the flaming bomb proof. My question is there an American flaming bomb proof, and a german, or is this one a fake.Is there more U.S. equitment marked with this?
