I'm purchasing a 1917 Luger from our father's estate, and need to establish a price. The gun is by no means a collector, but was in working condition when last fired over 20 years ago.
Everything I can see after field stripping shows matching numbers (9178). Proof marks closely resemble #16 on this web site, but with different letters I can't distinguish. Barrel top is stamped 1917, and toggle bears the ERFURT logo. Blueing is probably less than 20% on barrel & frame, over 90% on toggle assy. There is light rust, some on barrel and particularly on the frame where palm and fingers contact. Strawing is less than 10%. Grips are unchipped, but dirty, left side worn smooth in places. Wood magazine bottom is split: about 1/3 is secured with the pin, the rest (w/knobs) will pull out. For sentimental reasons, I will probably partially restore this gun to improve it's appearance for display, and will occationally fire it. Any suggestion in this area would be appreciated. |
