Hi One and All!
There is another Costanzo book, copyright 1975 by Sam Costanzo which is also called World of Lugers, and also markde Volume 1 at the bottom of the front cover. It's complete title includes "Serial Numbers of Lugers Issued to German Agents in the United States 1913-1916." I have a copy which I had to really search for. I mentioned this slim volume in passing to another knowledgeable collector who remarked that so many guns were supposedly issued to German spies that there must have been a German spy on every street corner! An interesting thought! In the end I have to believe that some of the guns listed may indeed have been issued to German agents but perhaps credulity is strained by saying all of them were. These numbers may, instead, simply be all of the guns which passed through Tauscher's hands in his role as distributor. Any thoughts out there? |
