Great photos of favorite firearms online

This link is to an auction site in Germany. It contains a couple hundred items and almost all include a publication quality photo... like you would find in an expensive coffee table book on guns... for FREE.

Lugers, Mausers, P.38, PP, PPK, Browning, CZ, Nambu, etc.

If you have a couple hours to kill, and especially if you collect firearms photos from the internet, this is a great site to visit.

For you P.38 enthusiasts there were at least 30 different variations displayed here:

If you speak any German at all, you will get much information about these firearms, and if you don't the photos are a pleasure to look at anyway...

I thought that I cold get on that website andsee something interesting. Hum a few bars of German and I could could flonder my way though it. NOT! I was totally lost. Did anybody notice that they put the commas and the dots in the wrong places on their money or was I just cross eyed again.

I agree that there are some nice pictures (and I saved many of them). I went to their main page and saw where much of what is there presented in English, but when I tried to navigate back to where I was it was very difficult. I couldn't find half of the places where I had been. As to commas and decimal points..what's the rule? It seems that a comma is used in place of a decimal point but not always. Hmmmm...Good site.

but you could get by with a german dictionary...

Here is the short course:

Langwaffen (These are the "long guns" (rifles and Shotguns)

Kurzwaffen (These are the "short guns" (handguns)

Use the pull down arrow for the category that interests you and select the first section and once you are shown a page of guns you can click on the photo to see the closeup.

use to return to the listing to select the next photo you want to see up close. when you finish with a page just click on the FORWARD at the bottom of the page to go to the next, until you run out of guns. All sections are connected in series so you just page your way through.

The descriptions with each closeup are another matter, if you have never studied German, they will be very difficult (or in my case, since my study was over 30 years ago they will be at least awkward), but in most cases serial numbers and type descriptions are present.

As to the use of comma and period: For money, YES they reverse the use of these punctuation marks...

The values given in DM (Deutsch Marks) most likely the minimum bid... Some would be GREAT prices if they were here and others are outrageous even overseas.

Drittes Reich (Third Reich)

Heer (Army)

Kriegsmarine (Navy)

Luftwaffe (Airforce)

Kaiserreich (Weimar era weapons)

Behorden (Other government agencies)

DDR (East German)

Bundewehr (Modern military weapons)

Ausland (weapons of other countries)

Zivile (Civilian model weapons)

This should at least make it a little easier to understand what you are looking at...
