Ferlach - city of guns since 1558

Just came back from the gun smith city Ferlach in the south part of Austria - only 10 miles away from the Slowenian border and about 40 miles from the Italy border. A city with much experience producing hunting rifles. Since 1878 a gun smith school is located there. They are training engravers and gold smiths as well.I have been there 4 jears for getting the gun smith licence.
Today the Glock company produces there too.
They are running a gun smith museum.

Tac, thanks for the response! I thought to stay alone with that interesting pictures. However the most important gun makers (Holland&Holland, Purdey, Greener...)are coming from England - and they have such fine and unbelivable quality!
The Drillings shown on that pictures are really not very common, these are drillings without any shotgun barrel : Caliber is 475H&H/9,3x74R/475H&H on that one on the first picture.
If you have any questions for more pictures, let me know!
Just for information: the rifles are not made from myself!!!

When I was working overseas in the 60's, I bought an over&under shotgun with two sets of bbls (12 & 20) from a gunmaker in Ferlach. I still have it, it is very light and handles great. <img border="0" alt="[jumper]" title="" src="graemlins/jumper.gif" />

I guess poor Tac has to settle for pictures since he can't have the real thing. What a shame.

Tac, why not move to the US as you considered a while back? Don't go to KAL, consider Utah--boy that would be a real change (shock) to a Brit.
