Post German military receiver proof. Found on DWM Lugers 1914-1918

Just received a 1917 Luger with the proofs stating it is a "German military receiver proof. Found on DWM Lugers 1914-1918". I have the holster, and 2 mags(not matching). All serial numbers match on the firearm. My question is where do I find any further info about the gun, and I checked my price guide and there are too many choices. Which model is this and how much does this weapon go for...I know it is a universal question, but just an estimate would help. I would rate it good-very good.
Thank you
Jason

Jason, a lot more info is needed, preferably pictures. What maker mark is on the toggle, DWM, Erfurt? What condition are the 'strawed' parts, how much bluing remains overall? Condition of the grips, have you taken it apart to see if the proper internal parts are correctly numbered, also the inside of the grips. You'll probably get some more questions from the other guys here but this will get you off to a good start.

Hello Jason and welcome!

A "shooter" Luger, one that is pitted, mismatched parts etc, goes from $400 - $550, a holster $85-$150 and an extra magazine is about $50-$125 on e-bay.

You can find out lots of information here on the forum.

Go to the search area and type in 1917 DWM

You can buy a specific book on Imperial Lugers, one is by Jan Still, called Imperial Lugers. There are lots of books on all the years of Lugers, see the links and resources section to find out more.

What model is this? Well, it is a more than likely a 1917 DWM, 9mm military pistol, used in WW1. Further information and pictures might reveal some more hints to its past.

SN = 7571
DWM on top
magazine s/n = 3442, and one that is missing a s/n. There is also what appears to be a "p" or "q" under the numbered magazine.
on bottom of the barrel, there is the s/n(all matching number on the gun) and an "a" and under that "8,82".....
proofs match that of "German military receiver proof. Found on DWM Lugers 1914-1918" - auth lugerforum
I see no pitting on the gun, the grips are original I believe....I good-very good condition. Wish I could post picks.
The blue-ing looks good.....

Hope this helps you and me!
Thank you

Jason, pictures help immensely in determining value, do you have a flat-bed scanner you can lay it on?

Anyway, from Jan's book, a 1917 DWM had a total of 90,000 lugers made, as yours is serial number 7571a, that would make it the 17571st luger made that year, (they made 10,000 without a suffix, then started on the enxt, through the "n" block.

The 8,82 is the land to land measurement of the barrel, showing that your barrel of the gun met tolerances and was accepted. (many parts were accepted in this way).

913luger, be sure to check the front and rear of the grips straps for missing blueing, a lot of these earlier ones were caried in the hand and it took it's toll in this area. My 1918 has this problem and I missed it when I bought it, read dumb me, never again, an expensive lesson learned the hard way. My guestimate based upon what you have provided so far would put it in the $13 to $1400 range more or less, depending upon the maker and condition of the holster, but then I'm not in the estimating business, just going on what I see on the auction sites.
