I was at a friends house and he pulled out some G dates, like 4 or 5 of them (_!_), it was interesting to see how they looked, slight differences in each from assorted wear, bluing on one looked bad, but had just had a hard life, while another was pristine. Those were cool to see and compare.

The most original Luger that I have is a 1900 American Eagle w/Ideal Stock and grips. Some old farmer had died and his kids were autioning off his stuff. On the table was a real beat up piece of do-do that I will charitably call a Luger. I started walking away when I noticed the 1900 AE. I was stunned. Apparently, the ugly Luger was that farmers shooting pistol and the AE was his 'show' Luger. His personal prize. Now its one of mine.

My favorite luger is a 42 Code 1940 Mauser I acquired while getting my hair cut in Greenville, KY in 1966. I got to talking to the barber about guns and the next thing we were setting in my 1965 Silver Blue GT Mustang with duel exhaust and 4 in the floor working on a gun deal. I paid $65.00 for the pistol, 2 matching magazines and a 1940 Karl Bocker mint holster. The pistol and magazines are mint also. Oh, I did throw in a 50 round box of .38 Special shells for him to shoot in his S&W Chief's Special. At that time in Kentucky you could carry a side arm as long as it was exposed. This pistol I cherish the most, I have never fired it and I never will!

That is a cool story and the moral is, you never know, when bs'ing with people, they will suddenly say, hey, my uncle has a Luger. I heard that a couple of months ago and then a month ago about two Arisaka's, he wasn't interested in selling, so backed off, but you never know unless you ask!
