Forum member Ted Green (Thor) does museum quality work. Contact him at Thor340@aol.com or telephone at 505-891-3883.
Why do you want to restore it? How bad is it?

Hi Norm,
I would recommend you give our very own Thor a call. Go to the links & resources on the side menu and check out his web site. He does some fantastic work. Sid.

Hi Ron,
I am not sure Iwant to restore it,that's one of my questions. This luger is in my opinion about perfect except for an older reblue. It is unit marked , all numbers match. A restore is one course of action I am cosidering. Your opinion would be appreciated. Thanks, norm |

Norm,
There are a couple of things you want to look at before even considering restoring your luger: 1. Do all the numbers match 2. Does the pistol have the correct "finish" for the time period (Salt blue, Rust blue) and is it original or has it already be refurbished. 3. It the Luger in a collector status i.e. retaining atleast 80% of its original finish, or is it a shooter luger (meaning it doesn't retain atleast 80% finish. Usually "shooter" grade lugers have a rough finish, mismatched numbers, or have been previously refinished (Which there is nothing wrong with that) These are just a couple of things I can think of, some of the more seasoned collectors can give you better answers than I can, for I'am still learning alot of the basics of lugers. Thor is currently restoring one of my weapons right now, he comes highly recommended, check out some of his work on his website its awesome! All I can tell you Norm is research the pistol and get several opinions. Good luck and welcome to the forum! Semper-Fi USMC <img border="0" alt="[cheers]" title="" src="graemlins/beerchug.gif" />

You have given a valid reason for restoration...it has already been reblued. This is particularly true if it did not receive the proper reblue, i.e. salt blued rather than rust blued as USMC has pointed out. An authentic rust blue restoration will return it to the proper appearance and will enhance the value somewhat.
