George, It's been renumbered!! It's also a straight winged eagle, should be a droop winged eagle.

Otherwise, a nice looking Luger!!

This enlarged and negativized photo shows that the mag bottom has been ground down and the new number stamped over the old one... most apparent near the first digit "8"

Whoever did the renumbering paid no attention to the fact that the other stamps were upside down.

By the way... NICE Luger.

So if I understand correctly, what I thought was a nice thing to find in a matching magazine, is in fact faked? I had no idea. That stinks! Well at least I don't have to worry about ruining the magazine when I use it for a shoot.
I thank you all very much though, mainly John D. for posting the photo's. And the others for pointing out a flaw, if I ever did sell the pistol, which I doubt, but if I did, I would want to give fair representation of what I actually have.

I just thought, whoever did the renumbering sort of did their homework, as my luger has the "d" suffix, so they must have gotten really lucky or searched high and low to find one with the 63 ampt and the "d" suffix,as the pistol has both. kinda ironic really. Again thank you all for "educating me".

Hi Dave, there are 10,000 Droop Wing Eagle over 63 and another 10,000 Straight Wing Eagle over 63s out there somewhere, I have several of each!! Take heart, you still have a nice pistol!!

And to what Frank said - I have a bunch of quote "re-numbered" Krieghoff mags as well. Also - your "G"" date is in much better condition then mine, so keep the faith and keep on collecting, OK?

Gentlemen, Please educate me. I'm mostly into Imperial Lugers but aren't the trigger, take down lever, ejector, etc. on these early G dates supposed to be strawed? Just wondering.

Hey Doc Fisher... according to my understanding... the changeover from straw to blue on the parts you mentioned (and possibly the magazine release button I think) took place during 1937 Mauser production... when they switched from the Rust Blue to Hot Salt Blue process...so Yes, I believe you are correct in your assumption.

G-coded guns were manufactured prior to that time... in 1935 according to The Luger Book by John Walter, Page 223.

Im sure you are all correct, I went into this purchase fully aware it had been reblued. I was not by any means trying to pass this off as original and think I posted to that effect, it is also missing the lanyard hook on the rear, I hope to correct these flaws as time goes by. I plan to take good care of this pistol..lol. My only worry is when I shoot it that none of the matching parts break. That would not be a good thing. I am keeping the faith and then some, I love this thing.

Does anyone fix the lanyard hooks? I kinda like it without it though, I am 6'8" and 350lbs and have hands to match..lol so I need all the room I can get on the grip of the pistol, when I hold it my hand covers the area where the "U" shaped hook goes. Also would like to have parts re-strawed.

We could either fill with metal and finish over the rectangular area under the lanyard loop or replace it if you buy a spare one. I can do the strawed parts as well.

I wouldn't worry about parts breaking or falling off if you shoot regular 124 gr round nose ball through it. Maximum M.V. should be no more than about 1075 fps.

The regular old garden variety Remington ammo, currently available everywhere, should work just fine, though you may experience some jams, as they are not loaded to the proper original OAL for proper step-feeding in the Luger.

I would avoid the +P or +P+ loads available at some dealers, as these are just too strong and may just beat your Parabellum to death.

I have been using sellor and bellot or something like that, 115gr fmj. seems to work ok, occasional feeding jam but nothing a pull and realase of the toggle didn't fix.
Thor, thanks, I know of a broken frame at a local shop, if he has it still and if it has the lanyard loop, I will be all set. Other than that I could arrange the rework with you and negotiate price. Thanks again.

I saw an entire case of it for sale at the last Reno show, bought two boxes, I think they were $10 for a box of 16.

If for a display, it is available on some of the gunboards, mine isn't for sale, but it was NIB, and makes for a nice display.

I want to pick up some Weimar or Imperial myself.
