All I can add to this discussion is this. At least some original minty 1908 commercials have survived. I posted mine here some time ago. Including just a couple pics (along with magazine) here for comparison.

5/ I re-inspect occasionally and wipe down with the silicon cloth.
This routine has served me well and I can honestly say that all my collectible guns are in as good shape as the day I bought them.
