Default "Two-date" Erfurt Luger

I saw what is sometimes referred to has a "two-date" or "true" double date at a gun show this weekend. It was an Erfurt 1917/18 in decent condition.

Here is a link to a discussion on them in a 2004 thread on the JCS forum.

At that time only a few had been reported. Any new thoughts on them? Do these have any more value than a regular 1917 or 1918 Erfurt? I know sometimes rarity does not equate to increased value.

More value, perhaps to a collector of lugers that is really into the "weeds" and minutiae!
I bought one but it was not at a premium; they are an interesting, known and legitimate variation.

Mine is a 1918 Erfurt, finished in 1920 and marked "1918/20".
It also is unit marked to the Weimar Army or" Reichswehr". Including "provisional" markings on the frame rear; by the time the front strap was marked this pistol became weapon number 5 instead of number 4.

Having read the thread referenced above, I've posted a few more pictures. The pistol still has the Erfurt accepted grips screws, which I suspect are later "enhancements", since they were not used by Erfurt after about 1916; I'm a little suspicious of the grips with all 3 digits, and of course the striker is mismatched; though the rest appears to be all original Erfurt work.

Curious indeed as first pointed out by Dwight back in 2004.

I would certainly add a 1917/18 to my collection if one popped up at a reasonable price.

Thanks for the photos. The unit mark is even more of a bonus.

I had seen one on an auction site a few weeks back; did a search on the forums, and found that interesting thread by Mr. Gruber. Then saw another one Saturday at the gun show.

It is odd that not that many have been reported.

I have two of these "true dual date" pieces. A 1918/20, and a 1917/20.

Below are some photos of the 1918/20.

Below is a link to my 1917/20 "True dual date" Luger.
I can't find my photos on this computer (and the gun is buried deep at this moment., so the best I can do is post the link to my posted thread on Jan Still's site at GunBoards.
