It never fails to amaze me what crap people will try to pawn off on some unsuspecting newbie! This guy claims that it is an all-matching gun, oh wait I forgot that the extractor is mismatched! <img border="0" alt="[grrrrrrr]" title="" src="graemlins/cussing.gif" /> Oh yea I thought in 1936 Mauser marked the "42" code on their toggles not DWM! The part that really frosts my ( word edited by admin...you can use your imagination here --JS) is that they ruined the only thing that was collectable. The magazine, when they ground off the serial number and stamped the new on to make it match. I would email the seller, but what good would it do! He is either a crook or an idiot! This rant is officially over. <img border="0" alt="[soapbox]" title="" src="graemlins/soapbox.gif" />

Hi Doug, in addition, just to make your day, take a look at the trigger plate. The bad condition and obvious change in size of the number stamped on it smacks of a foul act as well!!
![]() There is probably more if we could see the pistol in it's entirety. All in all, pretty sad!! I certainly hope no one gets cheated, except maybe the seller! |

I think the guy just isn't all that knowledgeable and thinks that because he saw a pistol that was "similar" going for that kind of money that his is worth that too. If you tried to educate him, he'd probably not believe you and take offense - don't waste your time. I notice the seller has no feedback rating which would indicate he's a newby there as well.
As far as being cheated goes....well all I can say is we've all probably paid too much for something because we just didn't know better. The piece looks like a real t*rd to me, but perhaps someone who's just dying to own a Luger will be foolish enough to pay that kind of money without doing a bit of shopping around, or checking a few web sites (like this). The seller states it's a re blue which IMO makes it a shooter grade gun worth about $600 +/-. |

Not to mention, if you turn it upside down, the serial number becomes 666....

Hmm,
Perhaps he can market it as Satan's long lost luger? It's a beast, that's for sure ![]() |

Hmmmm......
It's this kind of stuff that really turns off new collectors.... Imagine that someone actually forks over $1500 on this "EXCELLENT" Luger - and posts it here after the purchase..?? I really, really, really dislike purchasing from the Auction sites - but I have, and will probably continue to - BUT, I always expect something less, and am rarely disappointed.... <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" /> The best one yet, was an "all matching" byf about 2 years ago. The photos were fuzzy, so the owner sent some more.. Close-ups of the top, close-ups of the frame (without the SN), close-ups of everything.. So - I bid, being assured it was all matching..... Well - in a way - it WAS all matching! The top half all matched and the bottom all matched. Of course - the TOP and the BOTTOM were NOT matched!!! Oh - and the "perfect blue" was actually perma-marker in black, that never showed in the photos..... Amazing... Simply amazing... |

That sort of thing is fraud, doctoring up a piece and deliberately leaving out material information (the mismatched components) and you'd have been within your rights to return the piece for a refund. Will it turn off collectors? I don't think so, you lick your wounds, learn your lesson and be more careful the next time.
I've bought guns from AuctionArms and Gunbroker and can't complain. But, I'm generally a shooter type, and just haven't jumped into the deep end of the pool for big bucks. Figure I can't get hurt too bad that way and there's always going to be a market for shooters. It's nice having the pristine pieces pulling up the low end ones. Never buy the nicest house on the block. |

What I think of when something like this comes up is the word "intent".
