Quite interesting. There's an old saying about the victors writing the history books. To the English, WW II began in September 1939; we think of it as starting in 1942...To the Japanese, Pearl Harbor was just another battle in a long war...

That's right. All major battles of Sino-Japanese War happened before 1941.

Japanese Army had one thing unique -- I guess its logistics system did not supply food to troops, because in relevant movies, on Japanese side, a major task was finding food.. In European WWII movies, I don't remember seeing German searching food everywhere, well, at least, finding something to eat was not a major cause of conflict between local people and German.

A very good point! I would have destroyed all the railroads as they were the major suppliers and and most responsible for the transporting more than six million Jews to deadly concentration camps in Poland and elsewhere~ Camps could never exist without them! Eric

After the 8 Sept 1943 when Italy fom an ally became an occupied nation the Wehrmacht had to be substained also with goods taken from the population.
We must no forget the he US troops brought tons of food and goods to the people especially in the South of this Country.

A lot of Sons of the Rising Sun got stranded on various Islands and othr plaqces and starved.
At Truk, all their stuff was on the bottom of the lagoon.
Other Iskands bypassed.
Cannibalism was not unknown. Even in Malaysia and Burma they got caught with no supply lines and local pickings were not that great. Some places they were hunted down and slaughtered.
There are a few dismal Japanese movies depicting the lives of some of their remaining troops in these areas. In those days, the average soldier was basically a barely literate peasant used to being told how to function on every level.
They did not fare well as that continued to break down.

Isolated Jap units were also known to eat their American and Filipino prisoners. Their official attempts to spread war guilt to the US, UK and Dutch are disgusting. Read about the "rape of Nanking". The Japs were brutal and they got what they deserved.

My dad was transferred from Corregidor to Panama in November of 1941. He came back at Leyte after a stop in New Guinea and sent this photo to my grandmother after the fall of Manila to the US Army.

It's really terrible.

Surely we are not here to judge anybody nor any nation's army, most certainly every army has somewhere committed war crimes, BUT with al the respect towards all our Japanese and German friends, Japanese and Germans really "excelled" in this.
