That's normally where the WaffenAmt inspector would stamp an acceptance stamp.
I can't make out the detail in your photos. Can you shoot them considerably closer, and with some contrast? Use the closeup setting of your digital camera, natural shaded light and a tripod... Marc

The photos are hi-def so you can enlarge by clicking on them and they using the computer Z00M at about 300 get as good a photo as I have been able to get. Who applied the mark and what did it signafie? Were there more then one type of mark or were they all the same? Did they come with the holster, gun or was this an issue item. Is there someplace that shows all the different marks? Last edited by hayhugh; 07-12-2014 at 07:44 PM. Reason: More info. |

Hugh..I have collected tools for quite awhile and this marking is unknown to me. Of course I havn't seen everything. Tools pretty much follow the marks on the side of the Luger pistol. Eagle 63 Eagle 655 stuff like that. Those were STANDARD marks. This appears to be way out of the norm. From the way it's stamped and from what I see..I don't know what it COULD be? IF it were original...
I have blown up your photo's and they are NOT clearly in focus. Blowing up pics do not improve visibility if focus is incorrect.

When I want to see something small, I take a macro close up of it - but of course it has to have plenty of natural but not shining right on it....

Yes indeed, that is what I Have! What do you suggest the markings represent? Is it a unit marking, a maker mark or acceptance mark by whom? Again is there any information available showing the different markings and there meaning?

Hugh
It is a Mauser acceptance stamp (Quality Control) from around 1937 and is the first tool to use the stick eagle design. The best book in my opinion so far to show good photos and explanations of the acceptance stamps is "The Mauser Parabellum 1930 - 1946" by Don Hallock & Joop van de Kant. When you get a chance look at my Private Message to you. Thanks Ed |

Hugh was kind enough to allow me to purchase the Mauser WaA 63 tool from him for my collection.
