I still think the pics exaggerate the defects. In person, it probably looks much better. And I still think ~$800 is average for a Luger. The only downside I see here is that it's at a Gander store.

Jeff - I've had two outrageous incidents at my local Gander Mountain store. I described at least one of them here - try a Search for 'Green Bay WI' if you're interested.

Gentlemen,

In my experience you never pay too much for a gun - but you may pay it too early. Like everybody else I've made good deals and bad deals. Live with it. If you sell it in a few years' time, you'll more than likely make a profit. And think of how much fun you've had with it meanwhile. I've never regretted a gun purchase, only sales. The sale that hurt the most was the mint MG 34 I had to let go of years ago - but divorces don't come cheap.

Remember that money is nothing but dirty paper. IF you don't have any..it takes on a whole new significance.

Cabela's, while overpriced, will at least usually negotiate.
This.

And I have to argue Cabela's is the same. Cabela;s by me has two black widows, very rough shape - far worse then this gun - with rust in many areas and they are asking $3500 each! Ridiculous.

They advertised one with 3 3/8 barrel or something to like, and it was odd because it was noticeably shorter then the 4" next to it.

A month or two ago, I just missed out on a unit marked 1st issue P. 08 a Cabela's had out West (Idaho, I think?). Was a really nice gun, but it was sold by the time I called out there. Was priced at $1000. Shopping Cabela's inventory via the internet is almost useless, due to how infrequently they update.

I can't disagree with you though, sometimes I wonder what they're smoking when it comes to their luger pricing. I've seen some lugers priced at twice as much or more than what "the market" would otherwise dictate.
